All College of Law students, faculty, and staff are provided with a University email account. This account is the official method used by both the College of Law and University Administration to communicate with you.
Email Systems (Students)
There are currently two email systems used by students - WebMail and TMail. Webmail is an older system which is being phased out. TMail is the new and recommended system.
Most College of Law students who were enrolled prior to Fall 2007 have a University WebMail account, unless they have already converted to TMail. All College of Law students who were enrolled in Fall 2007 or later have a University TMail account.
Student WebMail or TMail questions and problems should be directed to the UT Help Desk at 865-974-9900.
Accessing TMail (Students)
Point your web browser to http://tmail.utk.edu to access the TMail system and log in with your campus NetID and password.

Email Systems (Faculty and Staff)
There are two email systems used by Faculty and Staff - GroupWise and Exchange/Outlook. GroupWise users are being migrated to Exchange/Outlook, however the migration is currently on hold because of hardware and software upgrades.
Outlook Address Book
Departmental email distribution lists are implemented in an Outlook Address Book using Shared Address Books from Exchange Public Folders. The Outlook Address Book and associated email distribution lists are not generated automatically. They must be created manually the first time you use Outlook, when Outlook is reinstalled on your computer, or any time you are having problems with the lists. The procedure for creating or rebuilding email distribution lists follows:
Create the Outlook Address Book
- Open Outlook.
- Click Tools.
- Click E-mail Accounts.
- Click Add a New Directory or Address Book.
- Click Next.
- Click Additional Address Books.
- Click Next.
- Click Outlook Address Book.
- Click Next.
- Restart Outlook.
Populate the Outlook Address Book
- Click Go.
- Click Folder List.
- Click the + sign beside Public Folders.
- Click the + sign beside All Public Folders.
- Click the + sign beside Departments.
- Click the + sign beside Law.
- Click Shared Address Books.
- For each listed Address Book which you wish to add to your Outlook Address Book:
- Right-click the Address Book.
- Click Properties.
- Click the Outlook Address Book tab.
- Click the box beside Show this Folder As an E-mail Address Book to place a check mark in the box.
- Click OK.
Set the Address Book Search Order
- Click Go.
- Click Mail.
- Click Tools.
- Click the arrow to the right of the Show Names From The: box.
- Click Outlook Address Book.
- Click Tools.
- Click Options.
- Click the arrow to the right of the Show This Address List First box
- Click Outlook Address Book.
- Highlight Global Address List in the box.
- Click the down arrow icon repeatedly to move the Global Address List entry to the bottom of the list.
- Click OK.
- Close the Address Book window.
GroupWise Email Help
Faculty and staff GroupWise email users should submit questions and problems to the College of Law Help Desk at help@libra.law.utk.edu.
Outlook/Exchange Email Help
Faculty and staff Exchange/Outlook email users should submit questions and problems to the campus Help Desk at 865-974-9900.
