Judge Bill Swann and two Special Masters are likely to hear matters involving the granting of civil protection orders as well as contempt proceedings. FACULTY
From Greg Stein, Associate Dean for Faculty Development
On October 26-27, 2009, Prof. Maurice Stucke will speak at an antitrust conference in Dublin, Ireland. Ireland’s antitrust agency, the Irish Competition Authority, will co-host this conference along with the Institute for Consumer Antitrust Studies and the British Institute of International and Comparative Law. Participants will include academics, enforcers, judges, and practitioners from the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, and throughout the European Union. The transcript of the panel discussion and the issue papers will be published in the European Competition Journal.
Prof. Stucke also has been invited to participate in two related antitrust conferences in Brussels. These conferences involve a research project financed by the European Commission. The first conference will take place this December, and focuses on the relationship between competition law and private international law, and the extent to which antitrust enforcement in an administrative and judicial context raises similar coordination issues. As part of this antitrust conference, he will present his working paper, entitled “Discovery in a Global Economy.” This paper addresses two issues: The extent to which foreign private litigants can obtain civil discovery in the U.S. and the extent to which private antitrust litigants in U.S. federal court can obtain discovery abroad.
Hart Publishing Oxford will publish this paper, along with the other participants’ papers, in a book, International Litigation and Competition Law: Coordination of Multi-Level Jurisdiction and Regulation (Stéphanie Francq & Damien Gerard eds.). At the second Brussels antitrust conference, in March 2010, Prof. Stucke will formally present his research papers to officials at the European Commission.
