Alumnus Art Stolnitz Honored
The library in the Legal Clinic at the UT College of Law was dedicated
to alumnus Art Stolnitz during a ceremony held Nov. 10, 2001 in
the Howard H. Baker Rotunda of the law school.
Mr. Stolnitz, a 1952 graduate of the UT College of Law, has been
a longtime supporter and benefactor of his alma mater, and he never
fails to attribute his success to the education he received at The
University of Tennessee College of Law. Over the years, he has remained
a generous supporter with both his time and money.
Stolnitz has also been an active member of the University Development
Council, the UT Theater National Advisory Board, and the Chancellor’s
Advisory Committee.
The day after receiving his law degree, Stolnitz left for California.
After several months, he began working for the William Morris Agency
in Beverly Hills in the legal department where someone had quit
only minutes before his arrival. Art was hired on the spot and thus
began his long and prosperous career in the entertainment industry.
In his career in the television industry, he moved from legal department
assistant to literary agent to television producer to administrator
and finally businessman.
Stolnitz worked for ZIV productions, later bought out by United
Artists; MCA; and Selmer Productions, a subsidiary of ABC. He also
was Executive Vice-President of Business and Financial Affairs for
Lorimar Television and Executive Vice President for Business and
Financial Affairs for Warner Bros. Television. He worked on shows
including “Perfect Strangers,” “Full House,” “Murphy Brown,” “I’ll
Fly Away,” “Family Matters,” “Sisters,” and “Knots Landing.”
