University law fee announced

The College of Law always has been and remains committed to improving the quality of its students’ educational and overall experience. With that goal in mind, the College of Law successfully obtained University approval to retain all the funds generated by a $500 per semester law fee that will be paid by law students starting in the fall semester 2007.

How will the money be spent? Here are some examples of what can be done with the additional funds provided by the fee.

Long term, the fee will allow the College to increase the size of the faculty, which in turn will mean that the College can offer new courses and additional sections of existing courses. Short term, the fee will allow the College to retain and even expand the talented adjunct faculty who add so much to the educational experience at the law school. The fee also will allow the College to increase its recruitment efforts; provide more adequate funding for student organizations like the Speaker Series, Moot Court Board, and BLSA, to name just a few; and enable the College to help cover some of the expenses students incur in attending conferences and job fairs. These are just a few examples of how the fee can make the College of Law an even better place. All of us in the administration would welcome any suggestions about other uses of the funds to improve the quality of the overall experience at the law school.

The College of Law remains a good value. Compared to ten peer and competitor schools, UT charges less in resident tuition and fees than all but two other state law schools and less in non-resident tuition and fees than all but three other schools.
