The Fourth Circuit Court for Knox County held Order of Protection Day on Thursday, Nov. 5, at the College of Law.
This was the sixth consecutive year the College of Law has hosted Order of Protection Day, an effort to raise awareness about domestic violence.
Court began with a lecture by Judge Bill Swann about domestic violence and orders of protection. Courtrooms were set up in Rooms 132, 135 and 136 and hearings were held throughout the day.
Judge Swan and two Special Masters heard matters involving the granting of civil protection orders as well as contempt proceedings. Domestic abuse, substance abuse, family law, criminal assault and civil procedure issues also arose.
Numerous community programs and organizations that deal with domestic violence issues had informational booths in the hallways.
