Justice Sharon Lee to deliver '09 Alumni Lecture
Sharon Gail Lee of Madisonville, Tenn., the newest member of the Tennessee Supreme Court, will deliver the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Lecture in Room 132 of the College of Law Wednesday, Feb. 25, beginning at noon.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
Justice Lee, a 1978 graduate, became the most recent UT College of Law graduate to join the Tennessee Supreme Court when she was sworn in by Governor Phil Bredesen in October 2008. Previously, she was a member of the Tennessee Court of Appeals, Eastern Section, having been appointed by Gov. Bredesen in 2004.
Before her initial appointment to the bench, Judge Lee developed a wide variety of experience in both civil and criminal litigation. She began the practice of law in 1978 with J.D. Lee and Associates in Madisonville. She subsequently worked in various partnerships and as a solo practitioner before her appointment by Gov. Bredesen to the Tennessee Court of Appeals in June 2004.
Justice Lee earned a bachelor's degree in business administration with high honors from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and later graduated in the top 15 percent of her law class. She is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association and has been a member of the House of Delegates of the Tennessee Bar Association since 2003. She is president of the East Tennessee Lawyers' Association for Women and a previous member of the board of the Tennessee Lawyer's Association for Women. She previously served as secretary and member of the executive board of the Knoxville Executive Women's Association and is a member of the board of directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Monroe County.
