State's newest appellate judge, Richard H. Dinkins, to speak at Minority Reception March 6

Tennessee’s newest appellate judge, Judge Richard H. Dinkins, will be the featured speaker at a Minority Opportunity Reception Thursday, March 6, at 5:30 p.m. at the Sunsphere at World’s Fair Park.

The University of Tennessee College of Law and the Knoxville Bar Association invite the law school community to attend the reception, which is a project of the Minority Opportunities Committee of the KBA held each year to give minority students the opportunity to network with members of the local legal community.

Judge Dinkins was appointed in January to serve on the Middle Section of the Tennessee Court of Appeals. It was Judge Dinkins’ extensive public and private experience that led Governor Phil Bredesen to appoint him to the appellate bench. After graduation from law school, Judge Dinkins served as an associate at the law firm of the Honorable Avon M. Williams, Jr., with whom he later joined to form the firm of Williams and Dinkins. He later joined the Nashville firm Dodson, Parker, Dinkins and Behm and was counsel to the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency and Fisk University. Since 2003, Dinkins has served as Chancellor of the Davidson County Chancery Court, Part IV.

Judge Dinkins has received the Freedom Fighter Medal from the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education as well as the William M. Leech Jr. Public Service Award. Upon being named to the court, Judge Dinkins said, “I have devoted my career to securing equal justice under the law for all segments of society. I look forward to continuing my career in public service in this new role.”
