UT Professors co-host three Brazilian students

For the past few weeks, UT Law Professors Becky Jacobs and Joan Heminway have assisted in hosting three student leaders from Brazil who have been visiting The University of Tennessee as part of a program administered by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in the U.S. Department of State. Two of the students, Marianna Perantoni and Joao Sanfran, are studying law; the third, Francine Rossone, is studying international relations.

The students are spending about a month in the United States studying U.S. culture through a grant-supported course, "Study of the United States Institutes for Student Leaders," offered through UT's English Language Institute. More information can be obtained at http://www.utk.edu/news/article.php?id=4400.

In addition to their time at UT, the students are visiting Chattanooga, Atlanta, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Charlottesville, Va., and Washington, D.C., while here in the United States. They also have been able to take in some key UT cultural events, including the Vols' home basketball game vs. Florida (for which Professors Jacobs and Heminway suited them up in Tennessee Law t-shirts shown in the photo above).

Professor Heminway will be teaching in June in the Summer Legal and Policy Study in Rio de Janeiro, in which UT Law is a consortium partner; Professor Jacobs formerly lived in Brazil and also may be traveling there this summer. Each hopes to visit with Marianna, Joao, or Francine while she is there.
