Frequently Used Tools:

Finding Law Review/ Journal Articles

Do you already have a citation to the article and just need to find the best way to retrieve the full text? If so, click here to use our Citation Linker, which will locate online full text if held in almost any University of Tennessee electronic resource.

If you have a citation to the article and want to find it in print, click here to search the law library’s online catalog. Try doing a title search for the title of the journal, not the title of the article. For example, if you want to find Safia Gray Hussain, Comment, Attacking the Dog-Bite Epidemic: Why Breed-Specific Legislation Won’t Solve the Dangerous Dog Dilemma, 74 Fordham L. Rev. 2847 (2006),  do a title search for “Fordham Law Review.”

If you are researching a topic and want to find articles on the topic, these resources might be helpful.

Index to Legal Periodicals will let you search an index of over 1000 legal journals and other materials. Once you are on the Index to Legal Periodicals search page, select “Legal Periodicals Full Text” for coverage starting in 1982, “Legal Periodicals Retro” for coverage between 1908-1981, and both for complete coverage. Once you have run your search, you may see a direct link to full text, or a “Find Text” button that will allow you to automatically search for the full text in the university’s print and electronic collections. You will need your university NetID and password to access this resource from off-campus.

HeinOnline has high-quality .pdf images of over 1,000 legal periodicals. For most titles, coverage starts with the first image and goes through the most recent bound volume (meaning that the most current issues, typically those released within the past year, will not be found on HeinOnline). Hein Online is best used if you already have a citation to an article that you want to read, although it does have a search function. You will need your university NetID and password to access this resource from off-campus.

Please contact a reference librarian if you need any assistance in using these resources or in locating journal articles generally.
