Blaze, DougThe Knoxville Bar Association recently presented the 2015 Barristers’ Law and Liberty Award to Doug Blaze, dean of the University of Tennessee College of Law.

The award is presented to a lawyer who is visible to the profession and local bar, works to advance understanding of the law in the greater community, sets an example of good citizenship, donates time for volunteer work, sets high professional standards, and achieves professional goals even in the face of adversity.

Blaze’s award was announced in the June issue of Dicta, the KBA’s monthly magazine, by UT Law alumnus Buck Lewis, who describes Blaze as “nothing less than a force of nature – a bundle of energy constantly pushing to promote the values of our profession.”

In the same issue, Blaze’s article, “Legal Education at Tennessee: Where We Are and Where We Are Going,” was published. In the article, Blaze discusses the dramatic changes confronting law schools in recent years and UT’s responses to these challenges. Blaze also introduced the Dicta readership to his successor, incoming dean Melanie Wilson.
