DEAN
The University of Tennessee invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Law. The College of Law has a strong tradition of outstanding teaching, important and influential scholarship, and significant professional and public service. The new Dean of the College will be expected to build on this tradition and these achievements. The Dean will enjoy enormous opportunities to work with faculty colleagues in a joint effort to chart the future direction of the College of Law and to lead the College to even higher levels of academic excellence and prominence. The Dean serves as chief academic and administrative officer of the College and reports to the Provost.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess the following qualifications: a J.D. degree or its equivalent; an established record as an exceptional teacher and scholar meriting appointment as a tenured full professor or comparable professional achievement; outstanding communication and leadership skills; a demonstrated understanding of the research, instructional, and service missions of a college of law; the ability to relate effectively to a variety of internal and external constituencies; and a demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of equal employment opportunity and affirmative action.
Desired Qualifications: Prior administrative experience is strongly preferred. Additional desired qualifications include experience in the areas of fiscal management and development. The College of Law is participating in an ambitious University-wide capital campaign, and the Dean will be expected to play an active role in fundraising, including collaboration with development officers, promotion of the campaign among our alumni and other supporters of the College of Law, and the solicitation of major gifts.
The College of Law is a charter member of the Association of American Law Schools and is accredited by the American Bar Association. The College enrolls approximately 450 students and is staffed by 44 law and law library faculty, contributing to a highly favorable student-to-faculty ratio. The College is distinguished by a collegial faculty committed to superior teaching, scholarship, and service and by highly qualified students. The College of Law maintains a Center for Entrepreneurial Law, a Center for Advocacy and Dispute Resolution, three law journals, and a nationally recognized clinical program and law library. VISITING FACULTY POSITION

Successful applicants must have a strong academic background and substantial, relevant practice experience. Preference may be given to those applicants who are seeking to enter the academy from private practice or those seeking to make a contribution to the academy or the College of Law community through teaching and scholarship before returning to the private practice of law. Candidates must have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship and service.
