Message for Interested Students
By now you know how
to "think like a lawyer." Wouldn't you like to begin to
learn "how to be a lawyer" and "what it means to
be a lawyer?" In the fall you will have the opportunity if
you decide to participate in the UT Legal Clinic. The Clinic is
open to everyone who has had trial practice.
You will handle real cases for real people. You will have primary
responsibilty for your clients, but have Clinic faculty providing
support and guidance every step of the way. You will gain experience
meeting with clients, doing investigation, developing a case plan
and theory, and carrying out that case plan -- all the way to trial
if necessary.
Regardless of the type of practice you plan on after graduation,
the Clinic provides a great opportunity to develop needed lawyering
skills. With faculty guidance, you will interview clients and witnesses,
counsel clients to help them decide what to do, negotiate with other
lawyers, and generally learn to develop and exercise professional
judgment. You'll even have your own office.
To register, simply sign up
for Advocacy Clinic. We will ask you if you have any case type preferences
before classes start. We take 32 students per semester.
