Our Mission

The College of Law understands the importance of integrating job and career concerns throughout the admissions, financial aid and career services processes. These critical student services are administered under one umbrella of staff members, all dedicated to one mission.

The Offices of Career Services and Admissions/Financial Aid seek to attract top students to the College of Law and contribute to their success by serving as both their consultants and their friends before and during their law school and alumni years. We seek to be consistently responsive to our internal and external customers and proactive in anticipating and in meeting their increasingly diverse and individual needs for information and assistance.

Through the Career Center, the College of Law:

  • assists students and alumni in all aspects of legal career development by offering instructional programs, services and resources to help them explore various legal jobs and careers,
  • helps students and alumni acquire and enhance the skills and knowledge they need for successful job searches, and
  • develops employment opportunities for students and alumni through relationship-building with various legal employers.

MEET THE STAFF

The College of Law provides a virtually seamless transition from prospect, to admitted candidate, to law student, to lawyer by streamlining staff and administrative contacts and coordinating strategic planning and activities.

Heading this administrative unit is Dr. Karen R. Britton. Karen has worked on both sides of the legal hiring process - for a legal employer before coming to the College of Law - and is in charge of strategic planning and direction for both the Career Services and Admissions/ Financial Aid departments. She is a former president of the National Association for Law Placement (NALP,) a national organization providing leadership in the coordination of legal career planning, recruitment, hiring, and employment for law students and lawyers.

Career Advisor Kay Brown counsels students and alumni on a variety of career development issues, including assessment of skills and interests. She also oversees the office resource center, tracks employment statistics, manages student participation in off-campus job fairs, and supports our judicial clerkship and public interest advising programs.

Recruitment & Employment Coordinator Elizabeth Krag serves as the office's primary employer liaison, developing and maintaining relationships with employers nationwide and coordinating all student and employer functions related to formal interview opportunities organized by the Career Center. She also coordinates outreach strategies and provides administrative assistance.

Students and alumni are invited to drop by the Career Center in suite 250 of the College of Law, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or make an appointment to ensure that a staff member will be available for consultation at a convenient time.
