Career Services Calendar

Below is a general timeline of career-related activities and special events for law students.


FALL SEMESTER

August

* The Patent Law Interview Program takes place in Chicago, Illinois, for 2Ls and 3Ls.
* The Southeastern Minority Job Fair takes place in Atlanta, Georgia, for 2Ls and 3Ls.
* The Big Apple Legal Recruiting Conference takes place in New York, New York, for 2Ls and 3Ls.
* The Mid-Atlantic Legal Recruiting Conference takes place in Washington, DC, for 2Ls and 3Ls.
* Early on-campus interviews take place on the Monday and Tuesday before classes begin for 2Ls and 3Ls.
* The first round of resumes are due for regular season on-campus interviews, resume forwarding and direct soliciation opportunities for 2Ls and 3Ls.
* An "Introduction to Career Services" is held for 1Ls.

September

* The Southeastern Law Placement Consortium for 2Ls and 3Ls takes place in Atlanta, Georgia.
* An interest meeting is held for the Presidential Management Fellows program for 3Ls.
* An interest meeting is held for the Equal Justice Works Career Fair, Conference and Awards Dinner in Washington, DC, for 1Ls, 2Ls and 3Ls.
* On-campus interviews begin for 2Ls and 3Ls.

October

* The Equal Justice Works Career Fair, Conference and Awards Dinner is held in Washington, DC.
* On-campus interviews continue.

November

* Individualized "Getting to Know You" sessions begin for 1Ls.
* 1Ls are encouraged to begin composing their legal resumes, especially if they wish to contact employers during the holiday break.
* On-campus interviews end.

December

* 1Ls may initiate contact with legal employers on December 1.
* Job search preparation sessions continue for 1Ls.
* 1Ls should begin researching types of legal and non-legal jobs that appeal to them, as well as specific employers.
* 1Ls should consider scheduling a practice interview with the CS Director, especially if they plan to interview for jobs during the holiday break.
* Registration takes place for the Nashville Bar Association's 1L Recruiting Program.


SPRING SEMESTER

January

* The Recruiting Administrators of Nashville will present "Landing the Summer Job: An Employer's Perspective" for all students.
* 1Ls should make sure their resumes are ready if they plan to submit them for spring on-campus interviews, resume forwarding, or direct soliciation opportunities.

February

* Spring on-campus interviews begin for 1Ls, 2Ls and 3Ls.
* The Nashville Bar Association's 1L Recruiting Program takes place.

March

* The Atlanta Legal Hiring Conference is held at Georgia State University for all students interested in clerking or attorney positions in Georgia.
* An informational seminar on pursuing post-graduate judicial clerkships is held for 1Ls and 2Ls.
* A list of volunteer, summer internships is available for 1Ls and 2Ls.
* On-campus interviews continue.

April

* 1Ls and 2Ls return their "Please Keep Me Informed This Summer" information to CS staff.
* 3Ls return their "Employment Report and Salary Survey" forms to CS staff.
* On-campus interviews end for all students.


SUMMER MONTHS

May / June / July

Registration is held for the following events:

* June - Southeastern Minority Job Fair
* July - Big Apple Legal Recruiting Conference
* July - Mid-Atlantic Legal Recruiting Conference
* July - Southeastern Law Placement Consortium
* July - Early On-Campus Interivews

Career Services remains open throughout the summer months during regular business hours.
Students should use this time to research legal career interests, schedule informational interviews, and network with contacts developed while in law school.

Students should also begin planning their job search strategies for the fall semester, as many large employers interview in September for jobs starting the following summer. Students should use this time to update resumes, compose cover letters, and research specific employers.
