Services for Alumni

Career Services' programs, except for on-campus interviewing and off-campus job fairs, remain available to alumni after graduation. Graduates who wish to make a lateral move or a career change can use the resources and services of the office to assist them in that process.

The office houses more than 1,000 resource materials, including books, video tapes, legal periodicals, employer files, and informative handouts that may be checked out for overnight or weekend reading. A resource list is available here.

For those who are uncertain about the career move they seek, we encourage you to utilize individual counseling sessions with the Director and Advisor in evaluating your situation.

Information on the first post-graduate jobs accepted by UT College of Law alumni for the past several years is also available to aid in your search. Many alums are particularly interested in starting salaries, which are listed by employer type and geographic area.

A service that is particularly helpful to alumni seeking positions outside the Knoxville area is reciprocity through other law schools' career services offices. Through UT's membership in the National Association for Law Placement, we are able to secure services similar to those provided to UT alums. Typically restricted to third-year students and graduates, reciprocal services require that we send a letter of request to the selected school(s) and provide them with your mailing address. Services may include one consultation with a counselor, access to office resources, and the chance to subscribe to a job opportunities newsletter or on-line listing service. To inquire about the availability of reciprocal services at other law schools, please fill out our on-line Reciprocity Request Form.
