The Missing Link in Juvenile Aftercare Programs – Judicial Involvement
This article describes how the principles of problem-solving courts can be incorporated into existing juvenile aftercare programs, essentially creating juvenile re-entry programs. This article will discuss the history and development of juvenile courts as well as problem-solving courts and will explore a few established adult re-entry programs. Once analyzing these courts, this article will suggest that state legislatures implement one particular aspect of problem-solving courts – intense judicial involvement – into juvenile aftercare programs. By allowing jurisdictions to implement the judicial involvement legislatively, each jurisdiction can tailor the program to its needs. I advocate that because of the vulnerability and immaturity of juvenile offenders, incorporating intense judicial involvement into juvenile aftercare programs will make the program participants more responsive and successful when re-entering their communities
