Sims graduated cum laude from Wheaton College and summa cum laude from the University of Tennessee College of Law, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif and served on the editorial board of the Tennessee Law Review. He subsequently served as law clerk to the Honorable Harry W. Wellford, United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Articles authored by Sims have appeared in the Tennessee Law Review and the University of Memphis Law Review.
Sims is active in a number of civic and bar organizations. He is a past President of the Nashville Bar Association, the Young Lawyers Division of the Nashville Bar Association and Middle Tennessee Governor of the Young Lawyers Division of the Tennessee Bar Association. In 2004, he was selected for the inaugural class of the Tennessee Bar Association "Leadership Law" Program. He has been honored by the Nashville Business Journal as one of the "Best of the Bar" in Nashville and has been named one of the top 150 lawyers in Tennessee by Business TN magazine.
Scott consulted with attorneys he knew before selecting a law school. “I paid for law school myself, so I looked for a law school that would offer me a first- rate legal education and prepare me for a successful career. UT never disappointed in either regard, and remains an incredible value in legal education. I recommend UT to others, just as the College of Law was recommended to me.”
