Jill Shotzberger was a dedicated volunteer during her time at the College of Law and was recognized by several national organizations for her commitment to public interest law. She also found time to serve as President of Law Women and Vice President of the Student Bar Association as well as Managing Editor for the Baker Journal of Applied Public Policy. She gained valuable experience as a legislative clerk for Planned Parenthood of Georgia, Children’s Defense Fund and ACLU of North Carolina during her summers.
These experiences prepared her well for her current position as Staff Attorney in the Office of State Administrative Hearings in Atlanta where she appears in court on behalf of Administrative Law Judges. She realizes the vital role her participation in law school activities outside the classroom played in her education.
“Participation in the numerous student organizations allowed me to become part of the Knoxville community and learn how to use my legal education to ensure access to justice for those outside the walls of the law school. You get out of law school exactly what you put into it. If you participate in extracurricular activities, whether it is Student Bar Association, Moot Court, Journals or pro bono projects you will learn far more by interacting with others and exploring the law in practical settings than if you limit yourself to a carrel in the library.”
