“My technical background from Georgia Tech lends itself well to the analytical thinking and attention to detail necessary to perform well in the study of law, most noticeably in legal writing and communication. The University of Tennessee College of Law legal writing program is particularly effective. Many of the practical courses and clinics unique to this school aid in directing and shaping knowledge into a valuable output applicable to the ‘real world’ practice of law.
The law school environment is both supportive and demanding. Professors seek to foster independent thought by continually challenging students in the classroom and are easily reached outside the classroom. “
James Cline, Class of 2010

- B.S., Georgia Institute of Technology, Mechanical Engineering
Summer 2009 Employment
- Alston & Bird, LLP (Atlanta, Ga)
Summer 2008 Employment

James worked as a product development engineer for two years before returning to the classroom to study law. During that time, he collaborated with spine surgeons on the development of medical hardware and designed a system of spinal implants and instruments for trauma, deformity and degenerative applications. Through his engineering work, James developed an interest in patent law and decided to pursue a legal education at UT.
“The UT College of Law provides a friendly and supportive environment for students seeking a solid legal education. Although the J.D. curriculum makes for a challenging experience, the College of Law offers countless resources to help students succeed in their studies and, ultimately, in their careers.”
