Meet The Staff
Howie Avery
Director, Office of Development and Alumni Affairs
A New York native, Howie graduated from The University of Tennessee in 1996 and then received his M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration from Arizona State University. After beginning his career in development at The University of Texas at Austin, Knoxville called again and Howie spent several years as Assistant Director of Development in the College of Business Administration. In 2007 Howie started serving in his now current role as Director of the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs here at the College of Law.
When he’s not rooting on the Vols or the Mets, Howie can be found spending time with his wife Amy, their daughters Emma Caroline and Sophie, their dogs Barkley and Lucy, and even their bird Paulo.
Random Fact about Howie: Yes, his bird’s name is Paulo!
Lauren K. Herbstritt
Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Affairs
Lauren Herbstritt joined the College of Law in August 2008 as the Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Affairs. In her position, Lauren focuses on raising money for the Tennessee Law Fund and developing an alumni engagement program that reconnects alumni to the College. When asked about her position Lauren remarked, “I love working with the alumni and designing events and programs that they are interested in. It is only by engaging our alumni in the College that the Tennessee Law Fund will realize its full potential.”
Lauren is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University with a BS in Organizational Communication. Before coming to The University of Tennessee, Lauren worked in not-for-profit fundraising and volunteer management.
