Class of 2006

Emma Dawn Carpenter graduated from the Presidential Management Fellowship program and is currently working as a Contract Specialist for the Broadcasting Board of Governors in Washington, DC. Recently, she was accepted in the United States Naval War College to earn a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies. Classes begin this September.

Class of 2005

Marisa Lee Combs and husband, Thad Combs welcomed a son, Witt Alan Combs on August 8, 2008. Proud sister is Winnie, age five

* Nikol Lombard Richardson and husband Kevin welcomed a daughter, Kori Juliet, on Oct. 19, 2009. Kori joins big brother Christopher and big sister Karis.

Marissa Moses Russ and her husband, Ben Russ, recently welcomed new son Eli Eskind Russ March 20, 2009.

Class of 2003

Elizabeth Guenther McMillan has joined the staff of Nashville Teaching Fellows, a nonprofit dedicated to closing the achievement gap in Nashville by providing excellent teachers to all students. Nashville Teaching Fellows is a branch of the national nonprofit The New Teacher Project (TNTP). Elizabeth is one of two staff members starting the Nashville office. She works to recruit, select, train, and hire mid-career professionals and recent graduates interested in making a long term career commitment to teaching in high need schools.

Class of 2002

* Johnnie D. Bond, Jr. has been operating his own law firm in Washington, DC since June 2006. Johnnie's law firm is known in Washington, DC as Bond Law, PLLC. Johnnie's law office is located in the heart of downtown DC at 1424 K Street, NW. Johnnie's law firm focuses on civil litigation, real estate and small businesses.

Bob Chapski and Cherie (Light) Chapski welcomed the birth of their son, Sean Robert, on May 15, 2009.

Class of 2001

Sherri A. Fox has been elected a shareholder in the Chattanooga office of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC. Sherri concentrates her practice in the areas of litigation, commercial litigation, medical malpractice, and products liability defense. A magna cum laude graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law, she is the chair of the Pro Bono Committee of the Chattanooga Bar Association, immediate past-president of the Southeast Tennessee Association of Women Lawyers, and also serves in various capacities for other groups and organizations.

Class of 2000

Christie Kizer Burbank has been named a co-leader of Miller & Martin's Health Care practice group. Working out of the Chattanooga office, Christie represents hospitals, physician groups, health care corporations and a variety of health care providers. She counsels clients regarding health care regulatory and transactional matters and provides general corporate representation.

Class of 1999

* Patrick T. Burnett of Glankler Brown PLLC in Memphis has been named a Rising Star by Benchmark Litigation. Burnett concentrates his practice in litigation, with an emphasis on contract and business disputes and other civil litigation. He was also a 2007 Memphis Business Journal "Top 40 Under 40" honoree and serves on the Board of Directors of the Cotton Museum at the Memphis Cotton Exchange.

John M. De Foor, II was appointed as a Municipal Court Judge, pro tem, for the City of Riverdale, Georgia's Municipal Court in September 2008. John is the Managing Attorney with The De Foor Law Group, LLC in Atlanta, Georgia.

Class of 1994

Kelly Parkhurst Peiper was recently elected to a three-year term on the Board of Directors of the National Child Support Enforcement Association (NCSEA). Peiper has been working in child support for nearly 15 years and provides consulting services to state child support agencies and delivers interstate child support and IV-D legal ethics training for judges and lawyers. She lives in Iowa with her husband and two children.

Class of 1991

David Higney of Chattanooga was elected Chairman of the Tennessee Bar Association's Environmental Law Section at the Association's annual convention in Memphis. Higney, with Grant, Konvalinka & Harrison, P.C., concentrates his practice in the fields of litigation, environmental law and administrative/regulatory law.

Class of 1990

Colonel Martin L. Sims of the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps was appointed as an Associate Judge on the U.S. Army Court of Criminal Appeals in Arlington, Va., Sept. 9. Prior to his appointment to the bench, he served as the Staff Judge Advocate for the 25th Infantry Division during that unit's year-long deployment to Northern Iraq.

Class of 1988

Frank Callaway works for himself in Atlanta, Georgia. He focuses on commercial real estate transactions and the formation of business entities.

Class of 1981

Sam Elliott of Chattanooga took office as president-elect of the Tennessee Bar Association June 18-20. The move puts him in line to assume the presidency in June 2010. Elliott practices with Gearhiser, Peters, Lockaby, Cavett & Elliott in the area of civil litigation.

Class of 1980

Phyllis A. Pierce was appointed Administrative Law Judge with the Social Security Administration Office of Disability Adjudication and Review (ODAR) in May 2008. She works in the Paducah, Ky., hearing office.

Class of 1977

John L. Norris, founder and partner of Nashville law firm Norris & Norris PLC, has been selected for inclusion in the 2010 edition of The Best Lawyers in America® in the specialty of Personal Injury Litigation. In addition, Norris has been recertified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy (NBTA). Norris, who has more than 30 years of legal experience, focuses his practice on civil litigation with an emphasis on personal injury, nursing home neglect, and business litigation.
