Institute for Conflict Management
A collaboration agreement between the College of Law’s Center for Advocacy and Dispute Resolution and the Institute for Conflict Management at David Lipscomb University gives students at the College of Law a unique opportunity to supplement their law degree with advanced courses in conflict management. As the legal field moves away from litigation as the exclusive means of resolving disputes, other forms of conflict resolution are becoming important skills for lawyers of the future.
Students may choose to secure either a graduate certificate of Conflict Management or a Master of Art in conflict management. The certificate program consists of fifteen hours of coursework and serves to enhance the skills of those whose employment require some degree of conflict management. The master degree program is a thirty-six hour thesis or non-thesis program designed to provide advanced instruction and skill development in cross-cultural, business specific and high-level professional conflict management. Students may receive dual credit toward the certificate or master’s degree for some courses taken to complete their law degree.
Students may take classes leading toward the certificate and master’s degree at the College of Law as well as at the Institute for Conflict Management at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. Courses are offered to accommodate the schedules of both the law student and the working professionals who are enrolled. Thus, courses may meet for full week-end days as well as during the summer. The courses are taught by an experienced faculty from across the country.
Because the program is open to professionals from disciplines other than law, the law students in the program benefit from a rich interdisciplinary learning experience which compliments the rigors of their law school education. Students also benefit from the experiential teaching format which is consistent with the College of Law’s model of blending theory and practice and providing clinical opportunities for the students.
Program tuition will be discounted for University of Tennessee law students. For current costs and enrollment information please contact:
