UT Law Student Bar Association

Dear Future Colleagues:

The Student Bar Association (SBA) would like to extend you a very warm welcome to the Tennessee College of Law! On behalf of the student body, I feel certain in saying that our College is different than most other law schools – we all relate as a community, like a family. This is why it is a special honor for the SBA to be one of the first organizations to welcome you to our community.

As president of the SBA, I would like to describe how the SBA serves our community at the College of Law. SBA is the umbrella student life organization here at the College. In this capacity, the SBA acts as an outlet for many of the activities and services available to students at the College including locker rentals, merchandise and used book sales, and a plethora of social activities.

Make no doubt about it - law school is a very challenging experience. But like any challenge, your endeavors in law school will produce one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. At the SBA, one of our primary goals is to ensure that you find a balance between your academic and social lives. Our hope in this goal is to build a network of support and positive relationships among the members of the law school community. In order to achieve this goal, SBA sets up regular social activities for students such as weekly excursions known as "Rump Courts" and other semester outings like our infamous Halloween party, "Chilla," and Barrister's Gala (referred to by some as "Law Prom").

I urge you to take advantage of all the great opportunities SBA offers by joining our organization and becoming involved. In the coming weeks, you will be receiving a lot of information from the College of Law. Please keep an eye out for information therein about how to join the SBA!

I look forward to meeting each of you when you arrive for orientation on Monday, August 20th. Until then, enjoy yourself! Law school will be here sooner than you think. Feel free to contact me or any of the SBA Council so that we can help with your transition to law school. I'm sure a number of current students will also make themselves available on Facebook to answer any unofficial questions you may have. I'm confident that you will find that the College of Law and Knoxville is a great place for you.

See you then, and, of course, GO VOLS!
