Recruiting UT Law Students & Alumni

On-Campus Interviews

The College of Law invites employers to visit our campus each fall and spring to interview top-notch students. The fall season typically begins in mid-September and continues through mid-November; we also offer an EARLY interviewing option on the Monday and Tuesday before classes begin in mid-August. The spring on-campus interviewing season typically begins in mid-February and continues through April. Click here to access the interactive On-Campus Interview Request form. Off-Campus Job Fairs

Each year UT law students have the opportunity to interview with employers at several off-campus recruiting events in Chicago, Atlanta, Nashville, and Washington, DC; click here for a complete list. Please contact Career Services if your organization would like more information about any of these events.

Resume Collection & Forwarding

If your schedule will not permit an on-campus visit, Career Services is happy to collect and forward application materials of students interested in employment with your organization. This service allows employers to receive materials in one convenient packet by a given deadline. Click here to fill out the on-line Resume Forwarding form.

Direct Solicitation & Job Listings

Another recruitment option for busy employers is our job listing service. Students and attorneys can access information about open positions through a password-protected web site and respond directly to the employer. Click here to fill out the on-line Position Listing form.

Video-Conferencing & Video-Taped Interviews

Video-conferencing services are provided by UT's campus-wide Career Services office. We can collect application materials for you, mail them in one convenient packet, and your hiring committee can select only the students they wish to interview. If you are interested in this option, we ask that you allow at least 4 weeks to make all arrangements.

If you prefer, Career Services staff can produce a professional, video-taped interview. An off-camera interviewer will ask specific questions provided by the employer or general questions frequently asked in a legal job interview. Your hiring committee can then review the videos at its convenience.

THE TENNESSEE ADVANTAGE

It's easy to see what draws good students to The University of Tennessee College of Law: small entering classes of around 160 people, a low student-to-teacher ratio, new curricula that provide specialized training, and a renovated facility that offers the latest in technological innovations. Additionally, employment statistics show that at least 85 percent of UT graduates accept full-time legal positions as their first postgraduate jobs.

A definite plus for second- and third-year students is having the option to participate in one of the college's innovative new programs that provide specialized training. The Concentration in Business Transactions focuses on the legal aspects surrounding the conduct of public, private and nonprofit enterprises, emphasizing the needs of business concerns, both large and small. Three core courses - Introduction to Business Transactions, Contract Drafting Seminar, and Representing Enterprises - complement the additional requirements of Business Associations, Taxation of Entities, Land Finance Law, and Commercial Law. UT also confers the dual degree of JD/MBA as another option for business-minded students through a collaboration between the College of Law and the College of Business Administration.

The Concentration in Advocacy and Dispute Resolution has been built on the College's long-standing clinical programs, curriculum in trial and appellate advocacy, and our successful moot court program. It emphasizes litigation skills, as well as those required for effective negotiation, mediation, and dispute resolution. Central to the development of this curriculum is the extensive use of advanced teaching technology that is available in the new College of Law building.

An advantage for employers is the experience UT law students gain by publishing three scholarly journals, The Tennessee Law Review, Transactions: The Tennessee Journal of Business Law, and Tennessee Journal of Law & Policy. All offer membership based strictly on competence and proficiency. Selection for The Tennessee Law Review takes place during the summer months after a student's first year; selections for both Transactions and the Journal take place during the summer months after a student's first or second year.

We sincerely hope you will consider the Tennessee Advantage when making your hiring decisions and cordially invite you to recruit law students and graduates from the UT College of Law. Please feel free to contact us if we can assist with your hiring needs in any way.
