The focus of this list is primarily free publicly available Web sites. Some of the sites have fee based content. I have tried to note when fees and registration or subscription are required.

COMPANY DIRECTORIES

Hoover's Online http://www.hoovers.com/
This fee-based site provides a great deal of free information. Public company profiles linked to current earnings updates, company web site, top competitors, free business news and additional Web searches. Also from Hoover's, IPO Central has filings, prices, news, statistics about initial public offerings (IPOs). UT Libraries users will find Hoover's Profiles included in the Business/Company Information section of Lexis Nexis Academic (a UT Libraries business database) as one of the selections under "Company Profiles."

This site provides links to analyst's research, a snapshot report, charts, news, significant developments, performance reports, earnings estimates, business description, company overview, income statement, balance sheet, and other information. Some reports are free; others are pay-per-view. Access to company profiles requires registration.

(Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval )

EDGAR Database of Corporate Information http://www.sec.gov/edgar.shtml
The US Securities and Exchange Commission's collection of disclosure documents as filed by US public corporations beginning in 1994/96. No annual reports to shareholders, but forms 10-K, 10-Q, and many other disclosure documents are included. The advanced search option allows you to search the full text of EDGAR filings from the last four years. The full text of a filing includes all data in the filing as well as all attachments to the filing. Access is free.

An Intelligent Interface to the SEC EDGAR Database that can scan individual filings for words and phrases. Provides downloading of filings in "raw", html, and rtf format. Choose advanced filing search.

10KWizard http://www.tenkwizard.com/
This site offers the ability to search by ticker symbol, company name, SIC code, type of form. The search can also be limited by date. It also provides full-text searching to all forms filed with the SEC - but users must pay a subscription fee to actually view/download the SEC filings.

RealCorporateLawyer.com at http://www.realcorporatelawyer.com
R. R. Donnelley Financial's educational resource that focuses on legal issues involving corporate and securities regulations. This site provides up-to-date news about SEC rules, regulations, and changes. Also offered is a monthly E-zine archived on the site and available via e-mail. Another feature is an extensive FAQ that covers topics ranging from Analyst communication to Web site liability.

SEC Info http://www.secinfo.com
Allows searching of SEC EDGAR and CSA(Canadian Securities Administrators) SEDAR documents. Search by Name, Industry, Business, SIC Code, Area Code, Topic, CIK, Accession Number, File Number, Date, ZIP but not ticker symbol. Table of contents are linked as are other documents incorporated by reference. Alternative formats such as rtf and txt available. Registration required.

Provides news from America's leading business newspaper. Users must subscribe to access the publication via the Web. Wall Street Journal articles are available through individual accounts on Westlaw. LexisNexis has limited abstracts for Wall Street Journal.

Integrated news and blog search.

PubSub http://www.pubsub.com/index.php
Users create a search and PubSub "matches" new content by monitoring weblogs, newsgroups and SEC filings for related information.

Official Web sites for the three major US stock markets. Each has links to market information and to the Web pages of listed companies.

Yahoo Finance http://finance.yahoo.com/?
Provides current stock quotes (delayed by 15-20 minutes) and historical US stock quotes (tipically back to 1970). Yahoo also has a multitude of financial and general company information in a very user-friendly format.

Big Charts http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/
Once you get past the splash advertisement this is a current, easy-to-use investment research Web site. This site provides access to research tools like interactive charts, quotes, industry analysis, intraday stock screeners, as well as market news and commentary. Historical quotes retrieve exact and split-adjusted stock price information and split adjustment factors as far back as January 1985.

Monthly Interest Rate Data http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred/data/irates.html
From the Federal Reserve Bank, information about interest rates. Includes current and historical information.

Links organized by topic and jurisdiction. Comprehensive and well-organized. Also has legal directories, legal news, current awareness services, discussion areas, and a career center. Also check out FindLaw's Corporate Counsel Center for examples of contract documents such as merger and share exchange agreements.

CEOExpress http://www.ceoexpress.com
Lists news and business sources by subject, as well as, some industry specific resources. Also from the same Express group is LawyerExpress.
